I just bought a '55 effie. (a sweet one) with 351W power. How can I tell what year this motor is?? Thanx

Look at the casting numbers, write them down..then look on a decoder to find out what year it was. This should also tell you some other important information about your engine too.

Thanks for the reply. Where can I find these #'s on the motor, and where can i find a "decoder"?? Sorry about silly questions. Can ya spot me as a NEWBIE?? LOL

I dont recall right off hand where the casting numbers are on the Windsor blocks, but I think there is a decoder on FTE for casting numbers, if not, search online for an "Engine Casting Number Decoder". I'll look at my 351W tomorrow and let you know where they are for sure, and I may have the decoder somewhere around the house. They aren't silly questions, not everybody knows everything.

It's also a good idea to check the #s on the block, the heads and the intake (if it's stock) to see if it's an intact engine or has had some parts swapped in/out
