i bought a 94 superduty f450 with a powerstroke yesterday.i drove it all around town yesterday and she ran beautiful.today i get in it and head out on the highway,during the first 10 miles @ 70 mph it ran beautiful.then it stalled.and kept stalling so for another 10 miles this went on.finally i reached the next town,where i replaced the fuel filter.this didnt help at all because now it was stalling at low speeds.finally i couldnt get out of first without stalling.well i finally got back home on the back of a wrecker.
i started it up at the house and it idles smooth then stumbles real bad then smooths out again.i also tried to pull codes but was unable to cause it seems like the diagnostic port isnt working .somebody give me some help please.
If it's a powerstroke engine, it has one.
It's located on the front of the block, passenger's side of the crankshaft pulley. The timing pointer is part of the sensor.
Get a new one and try it, even if it doesn't solve your problem it is a good idea to carry a spare.
The tach moving does not rule out the cps. There have been plenty of failures reported that the tach still moves. It's a timing issue sometimes, not a complete failure. The cps fails so often it is always the first thing to try.
well i hope i figured it out,i disconnected the cps harness and plugged it back in pushing on it hard to make sure it was tight.the truck ran fine.so i went down to the parts store and got some electronic cleaner and dielectric grease.cleaned and greased the harness plugged it in securly and its been running fine around town.tommorrow i got to go on a hundred mile round trip and im kinda skitterish about it i got a few thousand dollars worth of equipment on the back and dont want to be stranded
