This is my first maintenance period using the Shell Rotella 5w40. Here are my thoughts and observations.
*Start up on cold mornings had much higher RPM's.
*After warm, engine stayed at higher RPM's when coming to a stop at a stop light and wouldn't "release" as well as the 15w40 that I was used to.
*Was twice as expensive.
*Lost about 1 MPG or so (manual mathematics not Lie-O-Meter).
*Noise level was insignificantly changed either way.
I had 2 long road trips on this maintenance interval equaling about 5,000 miles on the 5w40 and had used less than 1 quart according to the dip stick last night when I checked it.
Just thought I would share that little info...I beleive I am going to return to the 15w40 as I like the performance better of the truck (plus their is a little $$ change also. $17 for the 5w40 and $6.50 for the 15w40) at the Wally World.
Did you fella's run it for one maintenance round and notice differences or did it take several "runs" to notice results....wondering if I didn't give it enough time.
Do you have a walmart close by.. it is $14.87 per gallon.. If they don't carry it, i think they will order it if you ask... I have stretched out my oil changes to 6000 (from 3000 with 15W40) so it does not cost any more to use the Rolleta 5W40... Great stuff..
