I was going through the new LMC Truck catalog and I saw this STEERING STABILIZER KIT, and I'm wondering if this helps at all with the steering, any comments?
I think it's definately a plus. Think of how squirley your truck would be if you took all of the shocks off of it. Well when you add a steering stabilizer, you're adding a shock absorber to your steering system. It's supposed to help out in rough situations by absorbing the shock of rough terrain so that the wheels don't just bounce to and fro. Does this make sense?
I don't think Ford put these on trucks from the factory. The only truck I've had that had one was a '60 F100 and it looks exactly like the one in the picture you pointed out which leads me to believe that it was after-market.
I once put a stabilizer kit on a Jeep M38-A1. I had to.
Before I did it, around 35mph the front wheels would get into an unholy resonant oscillation that wouldn't go away until I either sped up above 50mph or slammed the brakes to the point of locking up the front wheels. It was pretty bad. The whole front end, and even the hood and dash pannel would flex and shake. Once I put on the stabilizer kit(actually, just a damper shock), the problem went away for good.
