Replaced the positive battery cable on the '78 F250 but couldn't pull the terminal off the battery. Then I went to remove the other end of the positive cable from the starter solenoid and arced the wrench against the inner fender. Now the truck won't start. Checked the fuses under the dash and they all look good. Thought maybe there was fusible link in the cable from the solenoid to the starter but that isn't the case although I replaced the old cable anyways. So is the solenoid fried?
Yeah, I knew better but just got in a hurry before sunset. Can the solenoid be removed and tested by itself? Are there any fusible links elsewhere that may be the problem?
I was hoping my neighbor could help me out with testing the electrical system but that didn't pan out so I finally got the truck started by a little trial and error. First I bought a $9 solenoid and installed it but the truck still wouldn't start and it didn't have any lights, etc. Double checked all the fuses under the dash and all were fine. Swapped the battery out with one from my car and the truck started right up.
So Million, your comment about damaging the battery put me on the right track, thanks for the input. The upside is the old cables that were in bad shape have been replaced and I learned a good lesson.
