Question Question On Replacment Shocks

I am about to replace the shocks on my 95 F150 2WD. I can not seem to find anything except a replacement shock for stock ride height. It has Superlift leveling coils in the front along with a home made steel 1 inch spacer, and the rear has HD springs with Fabtech 1.5 inch blocks. It sits about 3 inches higher in the front and about 2 inches higher in the rear. I am looking for Rancho RSX shocks. The part numbers are 17010 and 17009. Summit told me that they only show the shocks for stock ride height. Can I use these with my setup? I know the rear shocks I am using right now are Rancho 5000 for stock replacement. The front I think are for slightly lifted, but I cant remember. Does anyone know if I need taller shocks for this small lift? Would it be alright to use the shocks for stock ride height? I was also curious if it would ride better with taller shocks. If anyone has any knowledge on the subject, please share!

Question for you. I have a 96 150 2wd, why did you lift a 2wd?

I lifted it, because I wanted to!

Have you evere heard of a pre-runner? There are trucks offered from Nissan (desert runner) and Toyota (I'm not sure what this is called) that look like 4x4s but are 2wd.

I wanted it to sit about the same as a 4wd. Besides that at stock height, it was way too low. I do not do any off roading to speak of, but I do drive in fields and pastures and down trails etc. Take a look at my gallery. It looks better this way. Its only a couple inches and has bigger tires. Most people don't even think it is lifted. A lot of people think it is a 3/4 ton. It is not like a jacked up truck or anything like that.

I don't see why people have to criticize other people. Thats not what this site is for. It is designed for sharing information and helping people with repairs and other problems as well as projects.

Does anyone know if I can use stock replacement 4wd shocks on my 2wd? Since they sit about the same height, maybe this would be best.

That's a nice truck by the way. I bet that Mustang is a blast!

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you and I wasn't trying to criticize. I was just curious. No, I have never heard of a "pre-runner".

I just checked your pics in the gallery, It does look good. I just couldn't visualize it.

I wonder if normal stock replacement shocks for a 4x4 truck would work? Are replacement shocks for 4x2 and 4x4 different lengths?

i wouldn't recommend using stock height shocks if you're running a suspension lift.

go to your local parts store and ask to spend some time with their catalog. most catalogs will have a section where you can find a PN by its specification. look up the stock PN to find the correct mount types for each end, then find a shock with the same mount types but that's a few inches longer on full extension.

12second, you didn't really offend me.

I looked at Rancho's website. The front shock for 2wd and 4wd are the same number. The rear are different numbers. So, I don't know. They show some for my truck in the RS5000, for 1-4 inch lift. That is what I currently have in the front, but the rear is for stock height. I really think they are too long though. The red dust boot keeps popping off the top of both sides because it is really compressed. There is only about 2-3 inches of the piston showing out of the shock. I bet the stock height would work better. I even think there have been times that I have felt the front shocks bottom out. Does anyone have any thoughts?

TexasGuy001 that is a sweet ride for sure! I have the same Ranch Hand on my 94 supercab. Love that two-tone paint job and those Texas-size chrome tips on the exhaust.
Summit should be able to help--I just got replacement shocks, but have a 6" lift. Went with Skyjacker shocks. If nothing else, call Skyjacker or Rancho's tech dept and see what they recommend. They should be able to help.

Thanks BigAIVB. I really think Ford should have made more of them with my colors. But then again it wouldn't be as unique. I emailed Ranchos tech department. We'll see what happens.

Just finished installing my Skyjacker Nitro shocks--what a difference. One of my rear shocks was froze up and the other was leaking oil. Plus I bought through Summit and there is a $30 cash rebate on a set of four bringing my total to approx $130 and that includes shipping! Can't beat that deal...
