Supercrew hauling a Jeep??

How well will a 02 Supercrew with a 5.4 and 3.55 gears haul a Jeep Comanche pick up? I'm not sure what the Jeeps weighs probably around 4500 pounds. The trailer i would be using is a 18' car trailer. I know i will probably have to keep it out of OD. How well will it stop? The truck doesn't have a brake box. I've hauled the jeep on the same trailer with my dads 99 PSD with no trailer brakes and it stopped fine.

Here's the truck.

That set up would have 10ft pole marks all over it. i wouldnt haul it without a brake box. your asking for it. even with your dads psd. you know how people pull infront of you when they see you have a trailer and cut you off. why risk it for a 100 dollar brake box? power wise i think you will do fine but until i got a box i wouldnt do it. its just not worth it. and if something did happen ....i am assuming you dont carry insurance for the trailer and the load. so if you did get in a wreck and the load came lose or just the trailer, not having insrance with it you would be bent over royally because your auto only covers your auto. not what your hauling too.....i see a bunch of 10ft pole marks on that set up.

I found out that a stock short bed 4wd Comanche weighs 3076 pounds. I've added maybe 200 pounds. So say it weighs around 3300. I was way off.

The SD stopped fine. It really impressed me. The Supercrew is my moms and i'm only gonna haul it 1 round trip. So i'd really hate to put a brake box in and only use it 1 trip.

If you think your saftey and risking the lives of others is worth saving 100 bucks then go for it. it sounds like you dont pull many trailers anyway, so you probably dont know the true element of danger there is when you do haul. bottom line here is that you will be asking for trouble if you do haul it without it. you have enough truck to haul the weight but not enough to stop it.

Over a trailer weight of 3000 lbs total = law to have surge brakes or electric brakes.

I drove an 01 SD with a V10, and pulling a 3.5k to 4k trailer with no brakes, I couldn't even tell the trailer was there. I noticed no adverse effects in braking or accelerating, but the SD is a different truck. I would get the brakes for the SC. Maybe see if you could borrow one from a friend or rent one from u-haul.

I thought about this. The SC has a towing package, it has the factory 7 prong plug in back. Dads SD has a brake box in it. Can i just unplug it and put it in the Supercrew and everything work? Also i heard something about 2 relays that need to be installed in the fuse box under the hood if i put in a brake box? Is this true? Thanks

Yes you can take the one from your Dads truck & plug it into your Mothers. It will work just fine. Since you have the towing package, you probably already have the relays but you could look & see. Check your owners manual for the location.
