Buddy of mine just got a 77 f150 4x4 with 360 auto. The transfer case is mounted to the transmission (not divorced). I have been told for years by elder friends and junkyards that this kind of setup didnt exist. I always wanted to swap a 390 into my 78 f250 4x4, but was told i would have to find a complete hi-boy parts truck with auto transmission and swap in the entire divorced setup to use the 390. I've ran across many trucks of this era, and never seen a tranny mounted t-case behind an FE. Could this be a rare find? Or could it be that out of the hundereds of trucks i've ran across I've never seen this setup.
The 77 F150 should of came with a 351m/400, but I guess its possible for an early 77 to have an FE. Only the F250's before 1977 had the divorced transfer case, the F150s and F100s were all married.
The very last FE WAS made in 76. Also, supposedly ford stopped putting FE's in the F150's in 1975. Every FE powered automatic F150 4x4 from 73 to 76 had a mated FE C6. The mated C6 and 205 combo is pretty common around my area for $200 or so. It's a good unit if you like auto's, but can't say it's anything unusual.
i know for a fact they stopped putting them in 150s in 76 because my truck came stock with a 360 2bbl and 76 was the last year for fe's. it is a 4x4 and has a married C6 NP-203. is he sure it is a 77? the 76 and 77 look the exact same just the 77 should have had a 351M or a 400 in it.
just got the vin#. decoded, it says the truck was produced in september 77, engine code G, which means it should've came with a 302. the truck must have been pieced together. thanks for all the info.
400Nut,
Is the truck a 2wd or a 4x4? If its a 4x4 than the body has probably been swapped since these trucks never came with a 302 in a 4x4. You might want to look for the VIN on the frame to see what engine it came with.
Not only does it sound pieced together, but September 1977 sounds to me like a 1978 model! 1978 should have either square headlights, or round headlights with square headlight doors (base Custom models)
Of course, the grill may have been changed... Or if reading the VIn from the door tag, the door may have been changed.
sometimes those VIN decoders are screwy, when i decoded my 78 F-250 it told me it had a C4 tranny, which is BS cause they didnt put C4s in that model truck....
