Will this rearend work?

Will a rearend out of a 86 or 87 model truck work in our model trucks? I know the 86 and 87 are different body styles, but not sure which model the rearend is.

It would be an 8.8 for an F-150, or a D60 or early sterling 10.25 for the heavier trucks. Neither I'd really want under my truck, and they aren't direct bolt ups.

those axles are wider than our series turcks have, i think. I know the very next series after ours has wider axles with different spring perch locations.

The rears are the same from 73/86 when the 9" was discontinued. To use one on a pre 73 the perches have to be moved inward. Tires will be out closer to the fenders.

THanks, thats all I needed to know. BTW, why would Ford discontinue using such a popular and strong rearend as the 9"??

Good question, All of the rear ends that Nascar runs are modified Ford 9". Why Did Ford stop using the FE? One of the best pulling motors ever built.

Ford has done some very odd things over the years. I think getting away from the twin I beam suspension was a very dumb thing too.
