Manifold bolt problems
Hey! I posted a thread earlier about getting manifolds off. Thanks for the help, it worked for most of the bolts! But i did snap a few of bolts inside the heads and some are rounded to much for a wrench or bolt out to grip. Can anyone estimate the cost for a mechanic to drill six bolts out? Or is it easy enough to do yourself? I'd apreciate some experienced help. FYI i'm on a bit of a budget so i like to do things cheap but right.

Hey! The heads are still on the engine. I'm not terrible enthusiastic about taking them off unless i really had to. I heard from a friend that i shouldnt try easy outs because of possibly breaking them. Can you use drill bits and chase the threads afterwards?

Pull the heads and take them to a machine shop. They will know how to remove the broken fasteners. If you have never done this it is not the time to learn. Maybe the machinist will let you watch. Practice on some piece of junk. It is real easy to make a mess and ruin the heads.

going to have to pull the heads no easy way around it. unless you have a big drill press and able to clamp the head on it to drill I would do as Eric says and go take them to a machine shop or try using the easy outs. If you break it then you have to drill and re tap the holes. Most the time if there is some of the bolt out of the head you can try welding a nut to it and using it to take them out.
