Well, decided to go ahead and just chop off my flowmaster ( just didn't sound good enough) and put in a piece of straight pipe, boy does it sound real nice and not as loud as I thought. My buddies Dakota sounds louder with his Flowmaster 20 than mine does, I'm very happy and it only costed me 40 bucks plus I'm getting $75 for my old muffler that a young fella offered me at the muffler shop...how sweet is that!
xtrford, I did the same thing about three weeks ago and I love it! '99 4.6 in my F-150, just turned 120K. I just returned from a 1700 mile road trip and the cab drone was not too bad but then again I like to listen to my music loud! I'm thinking of putting a 3" tip on to see if it amplifies the sound anymore. I haven't noticed any gain or reduction in HP since the change, how about you?
The manager at the shop answered a few questions for me about that, he said no power loss except a little bit of torque compared to the stock muffler, but I already had a free flow muffler on there and I didn't noticed any difference what so ever. There is a bit of drone for me also but it isn't bad at all, I can totally live with it. Glad to hear your enjoying it also, BTW I have 4 inch tip on mine but I don't know if it made any difference in the sound, cheers!
yea i did the same thing except the pipe a fe months ago, i cut it off and left it off. It was nice and all but loud when i opened it up. I now have a flowmaster 50 series to quiet it up. Now im think of running the straight ppe too.
I hacked my stock muffler off a few weeks ago. Sounded much better...it drowned out my manifold leak! I just clamped on a 2' piece of pipe to get it past the cab for inspection the other day. I just ordered a Flowmaster Super 40 3" in, Dual 2.5" out for it the other day too. Once I get the money, I'm getting headers, High flow cats, and throwing that Super 40 on it. Should sound good then...
Good deal, I have straights and 5" tips angled out the back of mine, I wouldn't have it any other way , btw, any of you ever try hacking off the 2 smaller cats on these trucks? notice much of a sound difference? I'm going to no matter, I was just wondering though, it should have enough backpressure even without those 2 small ones....
