i was at maple grove yesterday for the high school challenge and man did i regret not taking my truck. Looked like fun, and it was bracket racing. I was wondering if anyone ever ran their 2wd 250s down the 1/4 mile.
mine has a 400 with headers, dual exhaust and glasspacks, plugged up egr valves, c6, and 3.07 gears. Im guessing i would run somewhere around 16-18
As soon as i get my driveline in better shape (ujoints etc.) im taking my 76 F-150 to the strip to see what it can do..i have a 460 bored .030 over, mild cam, and a 780 Holley...i know its pretty fast, but i dont know how fast...biggest problem i have is getting the tires to hook up, so a ladder bar setup is in the plans for the near future.....i seen a guy at the local track here, with the same setup i have running 14's consistantly, on street tires...i watched him and i think my truck is a touch faster, i bet i can hit low 14's if i run with some slicks.....
i grew up in a family of racers and,i worked at the drag strip for 8 years.i know what its like to try to estimate how fast your street car is.most people are WAY off in their estimates.there was a 69 nova running around town on the summer nights,it was really, really fast.not another car around could come close to catching it.first time out to the track,it turned out a best time of 14.98.my point is,you wont know how fast it is until you run it down the 1320 foot (1/4 mile) track.remember, parts will break when you push them to the limit.SPEED COSTS MONEY...HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO? have fun at the track guys!-billy

I run my 79 F150 supercab 2wd 460/c6 in the 1/8 mile all the time. All i have done is changed the intake manfold to a Eldelbrock performer and put a 750 carb. Removed alittle bit of weight and added a spool. Best yet is a 10.10 @ 66.9mph with a 2.20 60ft I fiqure I'm run 15's in the 1/4.
Move, I have the same truck as you, minus 2 years... Did you notice a difference in power with the Edelbrock intake manifold? I changed out the stock 600cfm Motorcraft 4350 for a 600 Edelbrock, but power is about the same, seat-of-pants-wise... I cannot turn the tires loose yet, try as I may.
Oh, and I have the true roller timing set, at straight-up.

put a 750 Holley on it, that will change your seat of the pants feeling...i know when i put my 780 Holley on my 460 it really made that 460 set you back in your seat, even with the 3.00 gears....
That's one decent thing I have, is a decent set of gears; I have a 3.25:1 diff. I hope it helps going to a bigger carb. I wouldn't have thought there would be a difference below 5500 rpm...
my stock motorcraft couldnt even break the tires loose at all, i had just enough power to pull a light trailor and that was it...i added the 780 and WHAM!!! my truck shocked me at the low end torque that 460 had hidden away, i cant touch the throttle without the tires chirping...same thing on my friends F-250, he put a 750 Holley double pumper in place of a Holley 650 on his 460, and holy crap it has crazy torque now!! i wouldnt recommend a double pumper on a street truck though....

Well, when I got the truck the factory carb was leaking like a sib. So I took it off and saw the gosh awfull exuces for an intake and decide to replace it and the carb. Like I said I replaced it with a performer intake and a 4150 750 vacume secondary. With the stock rear open dif 3.50 gears it would spin the "tire" through second. Now with the spool and the same factory gears on pavement. IfI just step on it it will spin for maybe 10-20 feet. This is with the timing set a 38 degrees and a pre 1971 timing chain. I think I probably could have got alittle more out of it if I had back the timing down some to around 34 or 30.
Looks like fun! Sometimes I think it is just as easy to yank the engine from the truck to do anything to these things... I mean, the rad and everything is out of the way anyway... I am pulling my motor just to do the one piece neoprene pan gasket again... The rear portion is way to hard to fit right when the motor is in!
Ya, I thought about going ahead and pulling it to do the same but with the rad out of the way I can stand between the core support and the engine and work. Lots of room!
i was doing the same thing your are when i tore my motor down that far, then i yanked the heads to replace the head gaskets too(might as well when upgrading) from there its only like 12 more bolts to yank the motor...and with a couple cans of cleaner and a little paint you can turn this...
it is SOOOOOOO worth the effort when you can look at a pretty motor that you know has all new gaskets along with the performance parts you added..plus its much more bling when you open the hood....
