1994 Bronco 351. My Bronco has a rebuilt E4OD tranny that is acting up - just like it did before the rebuild. The tranny shop put all the latest updates the tranny. Here's what it does. It intermittently shifts hard - sometimes shifts have to run up to 2500 rpm before it will upshift. When this happens also the cruise control doesn't work. When the tranny is shifting properly the cruise works fine. Seems to start if I'm slowing down and making a turn, so I'm not in first but the tranny is hunting for second. Happens more often when the trans is warm or hot. Ideas? thanks.

It's probably losing the vehicle speed signal. The same signal controls the trans and the cruise. If this signal is bad or missing the trans will shift late and hard and the cruise won't work at all.
I don't know where the signal comes from on a Bronco. It could be a sensor on the transfer case or the rear axle.

On the 94 Bronco, speed data is provided to the PCM and cruise modules by the PSOM which gets it from the ABS system which gets it from the rear diff sensor.
Damn, that will be one expensive repair if the tranny wasn't bad in the first place....

I've already replaced the VSS sensor in the rear differential, and that was before I replaced the transmission. Is it possible that the ECM has a problem and malfunctions when it gets hot? If yes, wouldn't it throw a code? Any was to retest the VSS sensor. Thanks for your thoughts.
