Hey all, I recently got a 2003 EB expedition. When I turn the key and make contact (position 3, when you hear the pinging sound) the message center displays "low oil pressure" and makes that message center sound, like when it reads door ajar. After turning the key and starting the engine, the message goes away, i dont push reset or do anything. I asked the dealer where I purchased the truck and he said that its normal for the message center to display that message, however maybe he thought i was refering to the gauge display which all light up when u turn the key and make contact before starting the engine.
so is that message normal? and why does it go away once i turn the engine on?
any advice would be awesome.
Yes, same thing happens on my 04 XLT. I had some body work done and they wrote it down on my invoice, like it was a defect they noticed that they wanted documented. But I pointed out to them that with the key in the on position but the engine off, there had better not be oil pressure (at least not in the normal range).
Without the engine running there is no oil pressure. Once the engine is running the oil pump is creating the pressure. The situation your describing is perfectly normal. If the engine is running and you still have the low oil pressure warning then there is a problem.
