Additives?

Whats up guys I am new to this forum.. but after reading numerous other posts on different forums I was just curious what you guys are using for additives when you fill up.

The real question is what are you goin to use when the low sulfur fuel hits the pumps?

I am currently using power service with a 25% mixture of Marvel Mystery Oil.

THanks

- Chris

I don't think the Marvel Mystery oil is recommended for these engines. I am using the Diesel Kleen in the grey bottle every time I fill up, but I live in San Diego, CA. I know the Stanadyne is also reccomended, but i could not find that around me. The DK was available in large bottles at Wally World.

According to the bottle its for modern diesel motors. So I am assuming it ok, I know that power service isnt up to par for lubrication. That is why I am using both.
I just dont want to hurt the motor.

Thanks

Back in the day,I used to put a quart of transmition fluid in my gas tank, Wasn`t sure it ever helped, was supposed to promote upper valve train lubrication and clean intake?? I wonder if it would due anything for diesel engines??

yes, a good way to clean out the carbon on the injector nozzles and other things is to flush them out with ATF. make sure you use a good clean ATF, not used by any means. it doesn't have to be synthetic, but my teacher (when he was a diesel mechanic) filled half of the new fuel filter with ATF when he changed them out for clean ones.

The DK/PS are both good. I'm currently using some Stanadyne, but haven't noticed any real difference between the DK I had used before. I also picked up a bottle of Shafer's (sp?) fuel additive at the BTS open house this weekend, and I'll try it next.

I am curious as to how much of the DK you are using in a tankfull or what ratio. I believe they show 2 ratio's on the bottle when I looked at it in the store.

Where I live I can get Biodiesel for the same price as Dinodiesel. It is a great additive for lubricity as well.

I use Dk year round. White in the winter and grey in the summer. I have use Stanadyne, but did not notice a big difference. I have a 2k Crew Cab (29 gal. tank) and dump half a bottle in the tank, both summer and winter.

I use the larger amount, it doubles the "creatine" ( not sure that is how to prononce or spell it). bottle explains it tho.

I believe the word you are looking for is cetane. Link to pronuncation here: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=cetane
