I'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times over, but I have some specific requirements and want to get opinions on what the best tuner for me would be. 2006 F-350 CC 6.0 PSD. I tow about 40% of the time with my truck. It varies from a camper to a heavy enclosed trailer, about #8,000. It's a daily driver, don't want a hot rod, but would love to get better mileage with the option for more power. I want something that I can remove easily when it goes to the dealer. I also prefer gauges to the electronic read out on the Edge Attitude for example. Please offer any suggestions that you can. thanks!
I have the Bully Dog Power Pup downloader. Settings go from stock to +40hp in tow mode, +90hp in performance mode, and +125hp in extreme (says Dodge and Chevy can add over 200 horses at this setting). I run mine in performance mode. I love the power, it really woke my 05 6.0 up. I really bought it for increased mpg's though and that hasn't happened yet. I just hit 13,000 miles on the clock and it still gets about 16 combined. I did get 19 on a trip to Florida back in Feb though. Bully Dog is pricy at $599 and tax.
I think that the SCT is the most popular, but does anyone have any opinions on the Hypertech PP III? I have an 05 Powerstoke that I would like to get a little more power, and better milage.
With the PP III, or the SCMT, do you need an EGT gauge?
SCT is a company that is FORD dedicated. The Bullydog Powerpup and TripleDog, the Superchips Flashpaq, Diablosport Predator, will all be easy to remove. The powerpup is nowhere near $599.00. They will all give you 2 to 3 mpg when you drive it normally. If you tow that much you may want a custom tuned SCT Xcal2 with engine breaking and converter lockup, like the ones we get from Innovative Diesel or another reputable custom tuner.
We carry Hypertech, but dont get alot of requests for them. That doesn't mean they are no good. We just dont have too many of them out there for the Diesels. They seem to do real well for our gas customers.

I think this is one of those questions that comes up every week. Do a search for tuner or chip or one of the manufacturers of such and you will have more material to read than you know what to do with. My personal choice was the Banks six gun bundle with the power PDA. I have the gauges on the pillar and also have about 15 other gauges to choose from displayed on the PDA. I love the power in the system and have had zero problems in a little over a year with it.
I usually sell superchips for ford/dodge, Hypertech usually has more options for the chevys. The most important thing to look for in tuners is who gives you the most options. On most fords/dodge applications Superchips will handle tire/gear changes, hypertech doesn't.
I am using sniper, inc. special forces on my gas motor. The owners of sniper are suposed to be the ones reponcable for the new superchip flash pack.
I don't know where you heard this, but I highly doubt this is true.
I worked for Superchips calibration department (Ford/Dodge) in the early stages of the Flashpaq.
There are certain things (sorry for being vague) that would make what you've stated nearly impossible.
Sniper tuning is not in any way affiliated with Superchips, inc...unless something drastic has changed.
Hypermax is a company, but are you talking about the Hypertech Hyperpac? I know very little about Hypermax. The Hypertech Hyperpac is a nice unit with plenty of options and functions.
I personally like the Diablo Predator. Very easy to update if there is a change. Just go to their website and download the latest software. The original version was blamed with head gasket failures. This could or could not be true. The new version is very good. Very easy to remove if you have to take your truck in for service. Ford has never said a word about it, so I know they must not be able to see any changes from the tuner after it taken out.
