Aluminum

I think that some company should start manufacturing aluminum heads for the 300. It may actually have a good market as well. I'd buy one. Are there any custom valve covers availabe for the 300 other than the regular chrome ones that everyone sells???

There's alot of people that would like a 300 aftermarket cylinder head. The only one out there is a aluminum one that is for drag racing only. It has no water passages in it.

As for the valve cover theres very few options on that as well. You can use the stock one, chrome ones, one off of a EFI 300 which isn't all that much different, or one from clifford which runs $179.00. Theres a picture of it on their website. I don't think any valve cover is worth that much. Thats just me.

Unless I'm mistaken, the racing head was from Ford Racing.

I think the old ford blue was used back in the 60's. the new ford blue is a lighter shade.

I highly doubt a company would make just one cylinder head for you. They would need many orders to justify the cost. The site for the aluminum race only 300 head is : http://www.alanjohnson.com/ajpframe.htm click on cylinder heads, then to the bottom for AJPE 4.9 liter 6 Cylinder Ford Race Head. Its the same head offered through ford racing. The only difference in the EFI valve cover is its recessed in the middle for clearance below the intake and it has a taller oil fill neck. Other than that its no better than a stock carbed valve cover.

As for the blue paint. I just used Dupli Color Ford Dark Blue DE1606, which should be the correct color for your 300.

I dont have the expertise to do it myself, but a custom aluminum crossflow head would be very cool.

Ford made some cross flow heads for testing just before thy killed the engine.

A better way to go is to have your head ported. i have done a few.
