More Power and torque?

Did the 4.56 gears first, $1100 total for both diffs in 1999. Major towing power improvement and improved towing mileage. 10mpg towing heavy horse trailer (previously 7-8mpg), always 12-13mpg city, never been on a road trip without the horses. The cam and other mods ($5600 total rebuild top end) came later after the plug blew out. Those really upped the power (185 to 230rwhp) and the mileage stayed the same. Go figure.

WOW!! 4.56's now we're talking gears. Where did you get the gears? Did you install yourself or have a " professional " do the job?

Professional install at PG Series. 4+ years and 60,000mi and running strong.

So the 1100 for gears was including installation?

+1 for gears.

I think these trucks are largely under-geared from the factory. (In my case, 3.31 with the tow package!)
For towing, this is a great mod.

I run 4.10s with street tires (285-60R18).

Where did you have the gears done? What kind of cost? Have you noticed much drop in mileage empty?

On my truck, MPG was about the same.
Driving enjoyment = way higher.

I can't recall, I think they are Yukon or Motive...but I could be wrong about the brand.

I had these guys install them:

Install cost was $300, I believe, and they also installed a LSD at the same time (I brought all the parts to them).

look for a bigger motor. I noticed very little difference with flowmasters, K&N, Hypertech, MAF, and Throttle body spacer. The hondas can still pass me on the on-ramp....The flowmasters sound good to them while thy drive by though....

Hello Pronstar,
Schneider Racing Cams ph. 619-297-0227 If you order them the grind is "264-RH" and tell them the work order or reference number is "39082". That way you will get exactly the same cams I got for my 97 5.4L. It is a towing grind.
