Got a problem here! I was driving around town yesterday when all of sudden while stopped @ the light, my truck started shaking then it died. Tried starting it back up, wouldn't turn over (did that twice). After getting it off the road and into the gas station, I tried to start it again, it did, but idled around 300 rpms and died again after a few seconds. Same thing happened again a few minutes later. The wierd thing is when I did get it to turn over and and idle was low, stepping on my gas had no affect on increased power.
Fourteen hours later & towing cost's, still not starting. This the second time this has done this in a 2 month span. Both times now, their is 1 common thing, My A/C was on. By the way, there is fuel in it. The first time it did this, truck was acting as if it was flooded. I waited an hour or so before trying to start it again and ran fine until yesterday.
Any suggestions, comments / concerns
CEL is on has been for awhile. <- should've taken to dealership sooner!!!!
I had a friend connect his snap-on OBD and was kicked back 2 codes - P0232 Fuel pump secondary high & P0401 EGR Insufficient flow.
BTW, another friend has recommended that I install an electric fuel to bypass the everything so at least I can start it then take it to a shop to have it repaired. Does this make any sense to do this?
The P0401 is the reason your CEL has been on. Very common EGR crap code. Some SEARCHing for that one will eventually get you that info. DPFE sensor or clogged EGR ports, most likely.
The P0232 is indicating a problem with the power feed to electric fuel pump. Your symptoms are consistent with a fuel pressure/delivery problem.
The PCED has a step-by-step diagnostic procedure for this symptom. I'd try to get my hands on it and use it instead of just stabbing around and hope you get lucky.
A fuel pressure guage will confirm whether you have pump-related problems. You should have around 40 psi at Key-on with a reading of around 35 psi or so at idle. (don't have specs in front of me...)
