91 Ranger Side mirrors
The mirrors are not adjustable. They didn't use enough material in the rivet type system used to hold the tension spring to keep it from separating/pulling it apart over the years, which makes for a loose mirror. I replaced both of them with brand new ones from the dealer for around 50 bucks each, and they did the same thing again after a few years. I replaced the passenger side with a cheap plastic after market mirror which has a different spring tension design. No more problems. Just to see if this would work, on the drivers side I ground off the rivet type piece that holds the flat tension spring and drilled and tapped it (very small). Then I drilled and tapped the center of the flat spring and put a long set screw in that hole. Then screwed the flat spring back onto the mirror base using the two new holes and small screws. Then I just adjust the mirror with the set screw in the middle of the flat spring. This jams the ball/socket together. It works fairly well but I have to adjust it once in a while. It cost me about 20 cents for the screws and a few bucks for the tap.
