I just finished painting my new Hella dual tone horn and I'm curious which would be a better idea for mounting, the outside of the rad saddle (behind the grill) or in the engine compartment. This is a fair weather toy that will only see rain when I'm caught in it. Thanks for any of your ideas.
It's a tad crowed there; relays, MSD box, breather tank, coil. Thank you for the suggestion though. It's two horns (high & low tone), I was curious if mounted inside the rad saddle and facing in (towards the motor) if they would lose much (sound wise).
Another good thought Mil1ion, but I've got the tranny filter mounted up there. Sirkt, I looked around the frame and then when sitting eyeballing the truck I saw two fender bolts that gave a perfect location. You can just see the gold mounting arms in the picture, with a black truck getting towards dark its not easy. I'll finish wiring tomorrow but I hot wired them and they will definately get someones attention. Thank you again for your ideas.
I have had several vehicles where the horns were in front of the radiator support. As long as the opening points down they will not get any rain in them.
I have had horns like in your picture pointed forward like pictured from the factory in an ISUZU.
Thanks Torque1st, I feel more comfortable with the choice knowing that. The instructions said you can mount them to the bumper or various locations as an auxillary to the normal horn, if I have any problems I'll let people know. Now just have to get out today and mount the relay, run and cover the wires and tie them up and another job is off the list.
Then it's on to that dreaded March PS pump, but that's a whole new thread!
I remember hooking up an extra horn on my motorcycle. Hooking it up in parallel to the stock horn made it VERY loud! I left it that way, and added 2" drag pipes, in case the horns weren't loud enough...
