Hi all,
I was wondering which engine I should swap for my 460? It has the 3.55 rear end, 4x4, 5-speed. I don't do any mudding or anything, but need 4x4 for getting up my driveway. Would a 300 be a good idea, or should I get a 351W or something like that.
I want to drive this truck to school, but my dad won't let me cause it gets 10 mpg. That'll cost alot considering school's 20 miles away with gas @2.85/gal. I want an engine that'll get 15-18 mpg. I don't do any towing with this, thats why I got the diesel! Thanks.
Would a 7.3L IDI fit? I hear they get pretty good mileage (anywhere from 16 all the way up to 22). The only thing stopping me from doing this kind of swap is the special electric stuff (glowplug wiring, wait to start light, water in fuel light (if there is), Injector pump, injectors, etc.). Is it that hard to do? I know lots of people have done this kind of swap before. Any help?
Yup, you can save a lot of gas money spending thousands on an engine swap...
Oh, maybe it will just be hundreds....
If your 460 equipped truck runs good and is good condition, then:
--park it and take the school bus.
--sell it and buy something better to commute in, like a smaller 4x4.
--sell it and buy a smaller car, and clear your driveway with a rented piece of equipment if need be. ($250 day for a tractor with a loader and scraper out here, and that's in the middle of town....)
Cummins makes a 4BT setup for a Ford van that would get over 20mpg....read your pm!! I'm putting one into my truck with an adaper plate from Wilcap Adapters that bolts up the cummins to the Ford ZF transmission.....
