Ok guys...I have a Hypertech Power programmer III that I'm going to unload on ebay. My question is this....Is this a year specific programmer. I ordered it for my '99 PSD superduty. and....what is the HP rating this thing is supposed to increase? I will go to Hypertech on Mon, but I thought you gurus could give me the 411 earlier!! Thanks for the help!
From what I read on the Hypertech site: http://www.hypertech-inc.com/programmer.html the 99's & 00's are the same unit and 01's - 03's are differant. Check the site and see if you can tell by the part or serial no.
Ok another stupid question....Since I loaded this programming on my truck, does this lock the unit and make it VIN specific. Or...will it work on similar ECU equipped PSD? Thanks for babysitting me!!
Usually they will say when used "VIN LOCKED" meaning programing is installed on your truck, and the programer retains the stock program. And only if you return your truck to stock can it be unlocked. There all "allittle" different but thats usually how it goes.
IC...So it should be good to download upgraded program as I reset my truck to the stock settings. The programmer should now have the performance programming. Correct? Thanks alot for the help!

Most programers allow the unit to be used on differant vehicles if and only if the original truck is returned to stock setting. Most programmers store the VIN # of the vehicle the program is loaded to. It will not work on another VIN until the old one is returned to stock and VIN is unlocked. So if you want to sell your unit, you need to return you truck to stock using the programmer, this should make unit usable on any VIN that the unit is made for. To save any hassle while selling the unit and getting any bad feedback from evil-bay, you should contact
Hypertech and ask them. I have talked to them it the past and they seem to be very willing to help.
Thanks....the original (only) truck this is used on was returned to the stock setting. This is the way I understood it to work, just checking as I don't want to screw somebody with an in-operable unit. Thanks again!
This is a quote form Hypertechs website on their FAQs page. You need to call them before you sell the unit. It looks like it is a one time use.
Can I use a Power Programmer to program more than one vehicle?
No. The Power Programmer III marries itself to the first vehicle to which it is connected. However, you can program that vehicle back to stock at any time.
Just got back from a trip to Evil-Bay. Looks like several folks are selling the same unit you have. They claim it is used and reusable. I really don't know. I have the Superchips 1705 and I know that I can return my truck to stock and install the program on another truck. Let us know what you find out.
