I had an AGR box on my 88 Bronco. It made a world of difference. I could steer it thru tough trails with my pinky finger. From what they said, they bored out the bearing journals to use heavier needle bearings? along with improving the ports for better flow, and therefore better power assist. My 91 is slightly harder to steer, and has a little more play than I remember the 88 having.
Take this for what it's worth.
Would I buy another AGR if this one starts leaking? Maybe... but probablty not since I don't trail drive this one and run just 31" tires. I'll spend the money elsewhere.

you guys have got me convinced. I'm going to get the ARG. (I have a lot of highway wander) Can you buy ARG's at parts stores or must I get it mail order? I might just try the borgson also. Although the price seems kind of high for what it is. In any case, I will post a reply when I get it done. I hope I can return my current box to advance auto. (fat chance)

Just curious, did you get your new gear box? If so was it worth the money?

I got it in the back of the truck. I need to put it in. It looks good. I was going to do it this week while I'm at work. (I work away from home.) But now I'm scared I cant get the pittmen arm off without a press. I cant remember if I used one last time. So I might have to wait till I get home. I promise to give a full report. One thing I did before this trip was to tighten my front wheel bearings. They wernt hardly loose at all. I think it took out some of the highway wander. It may be just my imagenation.

Ok, I've finnally installed the box and here is my report. First the steering box looks real nice. They polish it up real clean. it comes packaged good. I got it from Summit. I did need a press to pull off my old pittman arm. The first thing I found was the sector adjustment was to tight. I could barly turn it through with a visegrip. I thought that maybe once installed it works better. When I finished the install, it still was incredable tight. Only in the center. (of lock to lock). I had to back off the adjustment about 8 times to get it to feel good. (about a 1/4 turn each time. There was no play the way they had it adjusted, but you couldnt drive the truck. After I got it set right, the play was about the same as the box I got from advance auto at half the price. (I did have to go through two boxes to get a good one at advance) Obviously, I'm not real happy. I should send it back. I hate pull it again.

The only thing I can say in their defense, is they recomend a certain fluid. (royal purple) and say dont use trans fluid. I looked in the owners manual and it recomends tranny fluid and thats what I got. Does any one here think that would make the differnce? The sector shaft was so tight when I got it, I cant believe a differnt fluid could lossen it up. But, I will try it before I pull it out. Does anyone know where to buy Royal Purple?

you can get royal purple most anywhere now like walmart etc... i dont see how that fluid would make that much of a difference. I would call them and ask why it was so tight, possibly its either defective or someone made a mistake during assembly.

I (we) Just Put A Box In My 85. Got It At Oreilly For About $165 And It Works Great. Put It Right In And Did Not Even Have To Adjust It, And It Has A Lifetime Waranty. Hope That Helps

I got the steering box and the pump. Same crap. It sticks on center and as for the pretty finish, wait till you wash it and it turnes to rust. The pump sucks as well. A lot of grinding noise. The worst part about it is that I can't just send it back because I won't have anything to drive to get to work. I would not recomend this crap to anyone.

I sent a e-mail to AGR complaining and they sent me instructions on how to adjust it. I'll try. As for the Royal Purple, its not sold at Walmart, Oreailys, Autozone or Advance here or in Lousianna (wher I work)

helirich, I realize this thread is 1 1/2 years old. I'm looking at a AGR steering box and was wondering if you are happy with yours now?

I bought a steering box and a p/s pump and they were both JUNK. THen, if you don't use a special fluid they won't warrenty the crap they sell. AND
, the pretty shiney box starts rusting after you get it. You don't know any of this stuff UNTILL you buy the CRAP and read it in the instructions.. /QUOTE]
