I was thinking about trying to find a universal electric fan to put in front of my trucks radiator that would push air into the engine compartment. This would not replace the original fan. I would have it wired up with a relay and a toggle switch, basically like a set of fog lights. It would be used when sitting in traffic with the AC on when it is 100 degrees and when towing. Basically I would use it when sitting still to help things cool down. This would only be in 100 degree heat. Sometimes when I sit in traffic with the AC on or while towing and then sitting in traffic the temp reads around the middle or slightly higher. Usually it reads right at the lower 1/4 of the gauge. Of course being that the paint is black doesn't help with keeping things cool. Would doing this help any or would it restrict air flow when it is not in use and cause problems? Has anyone tried this before or think it is a good idea?
Which radiator/cooling system do you have now? And did you use original or aftermarket fan clutch? I'm over here in Tucson, and even in stop and go with A/C and 105-110 degrees my needle doesn't climb much past 1/2 way. I noticed you already replaced/flushed the radiator, thermostat...Did you do the Radiator cap?
Just when my truck went out of warranty one of the service advisor's tried to sell me on "your fan clutch isn't effective". It was 1/2 hour labor and over 200 bucks. Everytime I pull away from the light on a hot day, and hear that fan like an airplane propeller die away on the other side of the intersection, I think of that clown.
My fan makes alot more noise now too. Maybe that means it works better now. I have a new rad cap. I actually have a new replacement radiator for an older truck., like th 85 I had before. I didn't want that aluminum crap with the plastic end caps. The one I have is brass I think. I have had far better luck with these type of radiators. It is for the super cooling. Its the largest one available. Also, the fan clutch is a parts store replacement. Its the thermal one not the non thermal I believe. I got whatevet it was that everyone on here told me I should get. I think there were a few options at the store. It is also for super cooling. It has a new stock 195 thermostat. I had a 180 in it for about a year, but that didn't do anything for it. It ran a little cooler, but still got hot sitting in traffic with the AC on or while towing. It seems to run better with the stock stat in it anyway. Basically I can't think of anything that has not been replaced in the cooling system. I had this problem before replacing everything also. It has a new heater core and all new hoses. The only hose that has not been replaced is the one that mounts to the alternator that has a short rubber hose at the end. Maybe I should replace that. I doubt it is the problem though. I really just think the getting hot problem is because of the humidity and the fact that the truck is black. I don't ever have this problem at night when it is hot. It is only when the sun is beating down on it. I think someone mentioned that the stock fan may not be moving enough air volumn at idle. Is there a better fan that can be used to replace the stock fan?

Personally, what yer calling hot is cool for me. just this past weekend temps in the 105-110... truck run at a low of *middle* gauge, driving in traffic.. Pegged out when stopped at the lights.. No A/C... in fact I gotta turn the heater on to get it to drop. Never had this problem when I was running the stock Holley.
