driving a manual ?????
Very well said Carl! I did learn the ways of the clutch the hard way myself- exploding the clutch in a 35 horse John Deer loader when I was 15 working on a local farm. I had to fix it because, well, I was their improvised mechanic. After that clutch job (and seeing the pricetag on the new one) I had a new found respect for the pedal on the left.
The funniest clutch burner I ever saw was at a local cruise in with a burnout contest. This guy brings his healthy sounding 427 powered early 70's nova that's tubbed with a 4 link, huge slicks and a 4 speed. There's always that smart guy that brings his slicks to the burnout contest. Anyway, he's trying to spin the rears, but the slicks are sliding the front tires and the chocks. The guys getting nervous out there and does a scatter speed clutch dump The car didn't lurch forward so he hammers on it trying to make the most of his 30 seconds. It's obvious the valve springs are getting a real healthy workout and smoke is pouring out from around the car in no time. The car disappears and people close by start getting choked out by the smoke and are trying to get away. The crowd's laughing thier asses off and the guy even held it down a little after when they blew the 30 second whistle. The chocks get pulled and the car would not move the clutch was so done. It was a sight to behold.
