Well finally I got my 91 in to the trans shop for a rebuild. I was hoping for a 100 to 1200 dollar job. Just a basic rebuild since it was still moving down the road fine. But, then came the phone call. Soleniod pac was bad causing the torque converter to slip. There fore that cause much problems in the unit. So, list of things need is something like this. direct drive drum, carrier(nonupdate version dead), pump, and a regular trebuild in order.
Had one bearing drop all its ***** and that helped kill everything else too.
So, the total quote is in the area of 1800. Now mind you this is to R&R the trans rebuild it and all the fluids besides any other little goodies. The torque converter will be a Rv style.

I am about to have my 91 F350 E4OD redone as well, I was looking at about $US1,400 to start as I recently upgrade solenoid pack myself and replaced most of my senders.
My truck runs fine except:
1, The TC lock no longer holds during accelerations and under heavy load.
2, It would not supprise me if my main shaft center support bearing is on it's way out as well which would explain the growl I am getting during an acceleration or when the truck has to pull hard.
Hopefully by doing this work before something breaks, it will keep the cost down.
The main shaft bearing is the one that died in mine too. More I think about it. I did have a shudder from time to time from it. No noise what so ever. Now its just trying to get the money to get my truck home.

Note, my growl/shutter only is a problem in 3rd gear and OD which I believe is when the main shaft bearing is under load as power is transfered down the main shaft from the TC either directly to the drive shaft (3rd gear) or to the OD planetary (4th gear OD).
