I have an '06 california model with 12,000 mi. on it. It runs great and geats
around 14.5 mpg. What are the pros & cons of unplugging this year & model.
And yes I have been to the tech folder, my head is spinning
With the '06 EGR Valve strategy it seems that unplugging is not as effective as with the '03 / '04 engine builds. The newer EGR Valve strategy keeps the valve closed thru the majority of the engine operation. Therefore, not offering up as much regurgitated trash. IMPO the new improved valves along with the new improved strategy will last longer...but, will eventually continue to present system failures. Just not with as much frequency.
If I had an '06 I would likely leave the EGR Valve...enabled...reluctantly. The newer folks wouldn't know but, I have lobbied loudly about disabling the WART on the early 6.0s...that's why it is so difficult for me to accept it's purposeful existence on the '06. The '05 engine builds are kinda in no man's land in regard to the WART
Others will be able to answer in more detail but that is it in a nutshell. Again, IMPO.
I'm with kw. The newer builds seem to be doing better with EGR hookedup- AND avoiding issues associated with unplugging. I think the engineering has caught up and you are ahead intact. kw's poll seemed to range between inconclusive and the same conclusion as above.
