I'm a newbie so bear with my questions as they may have been asked previously.
I have had my 2002 F-250 qaudcab for some time and shortly after I bought it as a used model from Ford, the driver side front and rear door lock actuators stopped working. I have reached a point where I want it fixed but I dont want to pay Ford to make the repairs or even what they want for the parts. I would have no resevation about making the repairs myself,I am just curious if anyone has had this problem and if so how involved are the repairs and how the heck do you get the door panels off, i cant seem to find any screws.
I am not familiar with your specific model but they are mostly the same...there are almost always screws someplace...under the ashtray, behind the pull straps, etc.
Then it is generally a matter of getting something flat (wide scraper) behind the door panel (I generally start at the bottom) and POP it off...there are several plastic push pins all around the door....8-12 depending....then the panel has to lift off over the door lock post...
Not too hard, usually...I just did this on my 94 Lincoln...once you do one, all the others are the same...
My 2000 F350 had one lock start to act up and then next thing they all went out. Ford will charge you a fortune to fix them and they are aware the actuators are garbage. The newer ones are suppose to be better.... Let us know how easy it was and how you did it if you do it yourself!
I had an 02 250 SC and all you have to do is pop up the door lock cover and there is one screw under there and the other is behind the red lens at the bottom. Then pop off the cover up inside of the outside mirror, they just pull right off with pinch clips. Once the 2 screws and the mirror cover is off, the panel will just lift up and off. Remember there are still wires attached to it so don't yank it way off.
I read somewhere (can't even remember if it was THIS forum) where some guy wrote up the complete direction on how to remove the actuators and take 'em apart and fix them better than new. After he posted the instructions, many others followed his direction and repaired theirs too. You'll have to search here and other trunk sites.
Good luck. Sorry I can't remember where I saw it.
Do a search for the lock acuator repair, I did it and it works! cheaper then 100 bucks or whatever it costs, just takes a little time. I didnt care if it worked a week a year, for my time. Its been almost two months and still working!
