After replacing all the seals in my 93 F150
I pulled vacume it was kind of hard to tell because of my hoses but I took a chance and filled my system with 134a "I did the conversion."
sure enould it all leaked out with in an hour or so...
I have been searching for this leak all day. I even put in some die and used the black light...
cant seem to find it...
After noticing the ac switch was cracked I replaced and pulled vac again.
"with a NEW set of gauges, and hoses.
It would hold vac for a couple of hours and solwly seek down...NOT a lot
"forget my numbers"
BUT I cant find a leak anywhere.... SO I recharged the system and looked for leaks again and havent found any YET It was dark outside and the black lght should have found it......
If this system is dry in the morning I'm going to just have to pay some one to find it for me I guess......
sometimes aslow leak will not show using the light as not enough oil escaped to be seen. the dye mixes with the oil not the freon. could it be the compressor seal, maybe the dye is trapped behind the pulley and can not be seen yet. did you try spaying the fittings with soapy water while watching for bubbles? it is low tech but it works.
An evaporator leak "is" a possibility, but it's uncommon in those trucks. I would highly suspect the compressor shaft seal on a truck this old. I do a quite a few of them every summer. Actually, I'd be surprised if it didn't leak some. Also, they often don't leak much, if at all under a vacuum. They leak under pressure. The seal is replacable and you should be able to rent the tools to do the job. There's a remover, replacer, and a seal protector.
If the system was ever discharged for more than a year or so it might be better to go with a reman compressor due to pitting on the shaft.
Also, the dye needs to circulate. The system needs to run for a while (at close to full pressure) before it will show up leaks.
