hey.... i was walking top my truck after leaving it in the parking lot for about 4 hours and i noticed a small puddle of radiator fluid sittin on the asphalt below my truck...i watched a few drops fall..checked the radiator fluid level...looked a little lower than it was the day before but nothing significant.... and left for home in a hurry. after i got home it dripped a few more times andf then stopped...and hasn't dripped since...this was 4 days ago...it isn't overflow because it was fine before this dripping incident and i haven't add any fluid lately....is this something i should be worried about????or did i just loose a little fluid Thanks for reading, 62Cole
Have you checked all of the minor culperts loose hoses leaking radiator, loose rad cap bad hoses. You can also check and make sure your water pump isnt ready to go sometimes you can get ahold of your fan and if it moves not in its natural way it may be a water pump. What motor do you have?
check the weep hole on the water pump. thats just what they do: leak a little before the pump goes completely. sort of an early warning that the inner seals have died
Cole, The old systems didn't have expantion systems and can not be filled all the way up. You can spend the money for one or the time and make one, but they are not necessary. You need to leave the fluid level down about 2" from the top for expantion and it will be happy.
As John states if the level of the water is above the 2" line it will puke it out.
Install a later collant recovery tank and the correct rad cap to allow expansion.
Later units puke it into the can then siphon it back in as it cools.
The water pump if defective in the seal will leak all the time when under pressure. Look at the hole if leaking through the weep coolant will be noticable there along with a stain.
