your 3.73's should do just fine. i have an 01 limited 4x4 V10 with 22x10's and 305/45/22 and it pulls 10000 easily...

When I had horses, I used to pull my 4 horse trailer all the way from Detroit up to the UP to ride. I stopped in ******* to fill up one time and met up with a designer of the X powertrain at the Speedway there. Got talking with him a while when I was filling up after going all that way in D. He said don't use D, that trans is made for hauling loads in OD. Ever since and up until I got rid of the horses I towed in OD and still today with 180,000 miles, the trans doesn't miss a beat! He said you cannot kill that trans and if you do, there was a defect in it to begin with. Now I haul a 6 place Renegade enclosed snowmobile trailer all the way up to places like Paradise, Curtis, Seney, Germfask and over to the Soo St. Marie in MI and Ontario and have yet to have a problem, except for a torque convertor giving a vibration.

Sir, that is a problem in the making. That was one of the things that caused my tranny to fail at 127K. Mine did it on and off since I bought it new. The one day it just died and that was it. ($3800 for a ford reman) I'd look into an aftermarket torque convertor and while you're at it, an aftermarket cooler.

Toreador_Diesel, I took the X into the mechanic this time last year to solve the problem, he went through every box and that's what he found and replaced it. No problems since.

That's what he said, you can't hurt it, it's designed for it. He worked for Ford's powertrain area in Allen Park Michigan. I took his advice to help with fuel economy and never had a problem, but it comes down to what makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It didn't bother me because I don't pay for repairs for it so I wouldn't be out anything. If you feel better driving in D, then so be it, that's your perogotive and I respect that, just like I repect everyone's opinion if they disagree with what he told me.

Best bet would be to call a local tire shop. I used to know but can't recall it now, been too long.

NC Medic-
A net search on " tire size conversion" will get you what you need. Simple answer is 315/75-16 are 35 inches tall generally, that is what I run.

NC, yeah, they are 34.6" tall. there is a formula to convert the metric sizes to english size.

Good. Because mine blew up me and they said that the torque converter, some diode, and couple other things caused a chain reaction. One of the mechs over at the dealership even showed me a couple trannies that had the same problem, and it was bad. May your truck and tranny bring you years of faithful service. Take care bud

Here's the detailed way.....

315/75/16 = 315mm wide with a sidewall that is 75% of the width and a 16" Rim.

1" = 25.4mm.

315mm x .75 = 236mm

236mm/25.4 = 9.3"

You have a sidewall on top and bottom plus the diameter of the rim. So....

(9.3 x 2) + 16 = 34.6"

I'm at work on a Sunday and this math was more entertaining to figure out than the math I should be doing for work..... which I now have to get back to doing

That is the mathematical formula and it is right. But not every 315/75-16 is 34.6 inches in diameter. Some are as little as 34.1 and some as much as 35.4. There may be some outside that too. Going from one brands size to another brands size does not guarantee you a change in size. I learned that the hard way going from Bridgestone to Nittos, thinking I was increasing about half inch when actually I lost a very small fraction. This was on a car, but decease or even staying the same was counterproductive. Can't trust metric sizes, you need to check manufactures specifications on actual size and revolutions per mile to get accurate picture.
