What yr make, model and engine size? If you’re getting that code and the vehicle runs good. Your ICM is working.

This is why you don’t take advice from a part store, I know, I used to manage one! You don’t need an education in mechanics to sell parts.

Obd2 I’m guessing since the part store was able to pull codes?

That should take out the guess work if they are doing the diagnostics. Do you have a black or grey ICM? Look up testing procedures for that. If the truck is running good, I would key driving it.

The thread posted above goes on and on. Before going down the same bunny hole the simple question is "Do you have a black or grey ICM?".

VERY common to have the wrong gray Ignition Control Module (ICM), which will cause Code P1351.

Is your black ICM a Motorcraft brand? If not, aftermarket black ICMs can also trigger code P1351. It's a crap shoot these days.

Checked ICM and no motorcraft visible the previous owner had 3 extra I found in truck so he was trying I took it to dealership and this is the work performed for me truck hasn't died since and runs good.
Previous owner said he came from California so that jives up with what Aurua Girl posted that was in the link from earlier

Well, a code P1351 for a 96 F250 means Californy emissions
P1351
Means the ignition diagnostic detects a fault
Running good or not, unless you replaced them both, you gotta realize the stator in that distributor is 30 years old, so is the ignition module
I'd replace both of those and reset the codes, hopefully never to see that code again
I go through those codes all the time with a PCED on ones that run like puke
Best you don't wait that ling and just replace the parts

His parts are less than a year old. That doesn’t mean they aren’t going bad.

Lost my post dont know how so here we go again I thought I mentioned that I had new distributor installed by dealership couldn't find it anywhere but it is on work performed by dealership that I posted called dealership about getting a new ICM of course they said it's discontinued so I asked what they would recommend and nothing really except usual parts places then I said so if I took it to dealership and told you to replace it where would you go,then he said O'Reilly's so I went there and got one for $72 plus taxes, wire wheel heat sink reinstalled it , connect battery cable start it up and NO CEL on Yay. Pictures of old and new ICM and box part number in case it might help someone else,O'Reilly's says it's an accel but box says standard drove it couple hours today and no light on anymore
Thank you all for your help in patience plus one shop wanted $450 just to do diagnostic.
Says standard on box
Says standard on box

Did you use THERMAL PASTE between heat sink and Tfi? Dielectric grease is what comes with it, that’s for the connector.

If not, please get some, remove the dielectric grease and put thermal paste.
Arctic silver is a brand for reference.
