put $83 in my truck yesterday. i will normally drive 430-440 miles on a tank before the low fuel light will come on and when filling up the most I have ever put in the tank is 27.9 gallons(29 gallon tank) EVER!(keep up with it on a sheet to compare mileages). Yesterday I had driven my normal 430 miles and stopped at the usual station pumped the fuel and paid my $83 went back tot he truck and noticed i had put in 29.653 gallons and got less fuel economy than normal due to pulling a heavy trailer all weekend so I expected less there. My light hadnt came on warning of low fuel and my needle was between E and 1/4 yet I almost put 2 more gallons than ever before in it.
You think this station is screwing people or just a freak occurence and it just seems that way? Is there a # to call and have their Dials checked if there truelly is a problem or they are just screwing everyone.
If it is their fault you figure at $2.80 per gallon calculating 2 gallons additional on just mine that is $5.60 extra they are getting take into account how many gallons a day that is being pumped into 18 wheelers at this place.
I have put in 32 gallons in my 29 gallon tank and I didnt fill up the neck it was at a hess station. I told the guy, he shrugged but next time 27 gallons like normal
I used to work at a fuel delivery/gas station. I have pumped 3000 gallons out of a 2500 gallon tanker. The secret is the temperature of the fuel. Whenever you deliver to the government, you first take the temp of the fuel, then pump it out, then they have a scale how much fuel you really pumped. Ever wonder why a lot of self serve places have above ground tanks? Sun heats the gas--you pump 20 gallons--let it sit overnight and cool, next morning 17 gallons. Always fill up in morning or late at night
yea, thats the easy free tip my dad tells plants to help cut fuel costs running boilers, get a scale and use weight, not gallons, in determining how much fuel they are buying.
There were some bad gas station owners that were cheating customers a few years ago. They put a special, illegal circuit board in the gas pump that would dispense 5 gallons accurately, but would cheat you blind if buying over 20 gal. When people complained, but gov inspectors came out with their 5 gallon test cans and found no cheating because the card would dispense only that amount correctly. The police finally figured out the scam with the bogus circuit boards and jailed the perps.
As Colorado-native stated check with weights and measures in your state. There is always a certification sticker on the pump. Here in NJ, there is a certificate that can be seen for the station's compliance.
