#1 and #4 missfire
Well my uncle is having the above problems with his 01 CC dually. I don't have too much information to go on but here is what I know...
166,000 miles
he changed the fuel filter two months ago, was worried because of how much "slime" was in it.
Now all of the sudden it runs rough... he had the codes read and they say #1 and #4 injector need to be replaced. I laughed.
He also said somebody told him to pull those injectors and wire brush them thinking that maybe they are clogged. I don't think this will help at all.. correct me if I am wrong.
I'll look at it for him this weekend, but my best guess right now is uvc harness.
unless the vc gasket/harness/connector itself is bad, i can reuse it right?
I'll probly have a spare on hand just in case anyway though.
He is very limited on cash, so we are trying not to spend much money unless absolutely necessary, which means staying away from diagnostics from a shop.. i.e buzz and contribution tests, unless they arent really that expensive, or someone lives close to Northern Virginia and has one that is willing to help.
let me know what you think...
thanks
When you floor the truck in neutral I can only get 1800 rpms and plenty of blue smoke
pulled the vc's and started testing injectors one by one pulling the connector off then starting truck up.
the mechanic that my uncle took it too ran contribution test and found 1 and 4 to be the problem.
I found #1 dead but when I disconect #4 and restart- truck barely stays running. so i think that one's ok
on the other side same process and found 6 and 7 to be dead.
Is this a correct process for me to be able to tell which ones are bad? If I unhook 1,6,7 truck runs exaclty the same as when I hook them all back up.
I assume a breakout test does exactly what I am doing only it can keep the truck running correct?
Well any thoughts are appreciated...I wish I hadn't agreed to work on this thing at all now.. but kinda late to change my mind. Thanks

Also, if the owner can afford it, I highly recommend replacing them all. With three out of eight gone already, the other five have to be in bad shape as well.
thanks for the help
