Hi I have a 1970 f-100 with a 302 with the stock carb...when i bought the truck it had been parked for about 8 or 9 years...anyhow i put in a carb kit myself and the truck dosent run bad but i wanna know how i should set the fuel mixture screws...right know everything is set by "feel"...ive never even hooked a timing light on it just put it where it seems to run the best...any help would be appreciated
Start with your suggested adjustment(probably 1 1/2 turns out)
Crank the vehicle and bring it to operating temp, driving it is the easiest way to do this. Now turn one idle mixture screw in until the engine starts to sputter, note the posistion.Turn the mixture screw out until the engine starts to sputter or bog, note the posistion of the screw. Now turn the screw halfway between these two settings.Do the same procedure on the other mixture screw. This will put you in the ballpark. From here you can experiment with an 1/8 turn in or a 1/8 turn out.
Now if you want to super tune that carb, you'll have to start with the main jet and work towards idle. That however is a little involved
