'74 Transplant into '71 question

I have a 71 F250 equipped with a 360/C6
I have access to a 74 F250 equipped with a 460/C6

I understand I will need the mounts/towers to mount the 460 and the C6 should mount to the present crossmember. Is this correct?

The next question concerns the drive shaft(s) The shaft lengths both forward and aft sections on the 74 are different that the 71. What modefications if any are required in using the later driveshaft assembly? Does the center bearing support crossmember need to be moved?
It seems to me the forward section on the 74 is 6" longer (not including the slip yoke) and the aft section 4" shorter than the '71 shaft.

Any help is appreciated.

the overall length on the shafts is what you need to check. if you want the 460, go for it. you are one of the lucky few who shouldnt have any problems. your shafts should work fine. that is about the easiest way to do this swap.

'74 Transplant into '71 question

Which driveshaft are we talking about? The 71 or the 74? If the 74, will the 71 yoke bolt to the output shaft of the 74 C-6?

measure from the top center of both trannys to the end of the tailhousing, if the difference is about the same as the difference in the front driveshaft length just put the 74 yoke on the 71 drive shaft. sorry i forgot the 71 had a bolt on shaft. i beleive the 71 tranny, bolt on shaft, is shorter than the 74 tranny, slip yoke. i have been swapping stuff around on these fords for so long it kinda all runs together. i THINK the center bearing supports are the same distance from the rear of the motor on both trucks. you may be able to just use the 74 shaft in the 71 truck.
