I am going to fix up an old Merc truck and was thinking of putting a MII IFS in it, the one that I am looking at is from Total Cost Involved, anyone else used this front end and have any tips...
hey svooom, how did you do the motor mounts? did you make those?
My question is this, I would like to keep the current location of the transmission crossmember so that I can keep the current driveshaft. How would i know where the engine mounts should go ?
am i going to have to put the transmission/engine in as one unit keeping it lifted by the hoist and bolt the transmission to the crossmember, and then measure?
Create,
The motor mounts are universal Ford mounts from TCI.
What I did was bolt them to the engine, drop the engine in place, tack the motor mounts to the frame, unbolt the mounts, and pull the engine back out so I could weld the mounts in.
It did take some cutting and grinding of the motor mounts to get them in the position that I needed but it wasn't too bad. I did all that work with the motor and tranny hanging from the engine host. I used a couple 2x4's and a jack to block and brace the motor so it wouldn't swing when I was working.
I used the Heidts MII IFS on my 54, it was a breeze to put in, very good instructions and very well manufactured assembly. I'd definetly recommend them to anybody.

i have his kit in my 60 ford and it is of really good quality and construction. his prices are on par with the American stuff and cheaper to ship within Canada than from the States.
