Power steering kit??

No one makes a "kit" per se, but you can make one yourself for a lot cheaper, anyway. Just find a 67-72 with power steering in your local junkyard and take off the parts you need. You'll need the gearbox, column, pump and bracket, etc.

Power steering kit??

To add P/S to your '68 ranger. All that is required is to find a '79 and older truck with a complete P/S system. And swap all the P/S parts.(ie..p/s gear, pump and brackets)The only catch is(at least as I have been told)is you will need to swap the steering shaft from p/s column to the non p/s column for a '73-'79 truck. Yhat is unless to decide to change to a newer or different style of column. The why is a p/s shaft is shorter than a non p/s shaft. But remember a 2wd system won't fit a 4wd truck.

Post Power steering kit??

Any power steering column from 67-79 will bolt in. The column wiring wiil have to be adapted, of course. Not too hard. Get the mounting bracket from the firewall with the column.

Power steering kit??

The simplest way to convert a '68 2wd to power steering is to find a 67-72 2wd with power steering to use as a donor. Ideally, it will also have the same engine family as your truck, so you can also swipe the brackets and idler pulleys from the donor truck motor and use them on yours.

You will need the steering gearbox, power steering pump, mounting brackets, and steering column. Get all the hoses and lines, too, but you should replace them while you're at it. Take a few pictures of the assembly in the donor truck before you start. It'll help make sure you get everything together in your truck correctly.

If you can't find a 67-72 donor, you can use a 73-79. Again, your best off using a donor with the same engine family. Keep in mind that the FE wasn't offered after 76, and brackets from a 302, 351 or 460 won't work on an FE.

The 73-79 column, however, has different wiring than your 68 column, so some work will need to be done to adapt it. It's not that difficult, but I prefer the original look of my 69 column. If you are going to go to the effort of swapping in a later column, look for a 78-79 donor with a tilt column. The tilt wheel is the only reason I would swap in a later column on my truck.

Are you saying that you don't need to change out the column--just the shaft inside the column to get it to fit? I'm in the process of adding PS to my 71 f100 from a 70 f250...I have the 70 column but an inner shaft change would be a lot easier than chanign out the entire column. Also, does it matter if mine's 2wd and the 70-f250 was 4wd? One more question--how important is it to get the bolt through the attach-point on the water pump? Everything mathces up except that one!
Thanks,
Tim
