how should a bone stock 351m perform? mine runs like a top but i dunno if it has the power it should.... should it at least spin 31" tires with 3.50 gears?
351m only had about 160-170 hp stock when new, so if it has any amount of mileage on it i would say probably not. lots of things you can do to increase hp/torque, including rebuilding it to a 400. all that is required are different pistons and crankshaft. lots of other performance upgrades are possible as well that will get them tires smokin'.
Haha sure it is..... buddy tells you your truck doesn't have enough ***** to fry the tires you have to show him she will. Seriously though how much torque do one of these get?
My stock 79' 351M smoked 35's....but not anymore....now its smokin 36's with a decent cam, roller rockers, double roller timing, mild porting, and edelbrock manifold. o yea, and a 4 degree advance...as well as a full MSD off road ignition and distributor.

Smokin' tires may impress some, but does it go? Will it snap your head when you shift hard? Will it set you back in your seat as you accelerate hard? The answer to these and more questions of a stock 351m is no. Is this engine a dog? In stock trim it will take a bone and just about bury it. The good news however is, Underdog is here. Only 25 some odd years since the last ones lumbered off the assenbly line people have finally put some smelling salts under it's hood and found there is a real animal in there just waiting to be let out.
