Looking to stock up on some filters since I am due for a change.
International fuel filter (not the frame filter) $26.37 -- good price?
Still looking for prices for the fuel filter on the frame.
OIL FILTER
Are the "oilguard" oil filters for $11.00 each any good? I see that there is another one that is available for more $$$ -- called RACOR filter.
Any thoughts or suggestions on where to buy from / and manufacturer ?
The International kit (1847170C92) should include both the engine-mounted and frame-mounted filters in one box, and run $30-$40.
RACOR builds the OEM filters, the Oilguard filters are made by WIX. Personally, I like the OEM filters... I buy them either for $19.95 at the local ChinaMart or $17.95 from DieselFiltersOnline.com (site sponsor). I also get my air filters from DFO.
For me:
Air - DFO, $52.95
Oil - DFO, $17.95, or Walmart, $19.95
Fuel - IH, ~$35 kit
Make sure that when pricing out the Fuel Filter, you ask the International guys for the Filter kit that goes on the VT275 (4.5 LCF motor) and not the VT365. (International's 6.0)
The one on the International 6.0 will not fit on Ford's 6.0.
Just making sure you're lookin' at the right filter setup.
ROOFGOOF, I don't think you goofed. I change mine for the first time at 23K, and I didn't think mine looked that bad. I know you can't see all the filtered particles but they didn't look that bad. I had never seen the water in fuel light come on either. Maybe I was lucky also.
Cool, thanks alot. I appreciate the help. I goofed and I am at 26K miles and never changed the fuel filters. Going to do it ASAP.
Are the air filters from DFO (Donaldson?) I have been recommended to use that one.
Yes, they are o-fficial Motorcraft OEM air filters with the blue synthetic media. I've not found any manufacturers who distribute the Donaldson Powercore filters that have the blue synthetic media that were NOT Motorcraft.
I don't think you can get the true OEM filter even from Donaldson. The OEM filter media from Donaldson is blue and was not to be available to anyone but Ford. The Donaldson white media does not filter as well or hold as much.
A Donaldson engineer that visits these sites advised the above.
He also indicated there is no need to change the filter until the minder or light goes on. Otherwise, you are changing prematurely and costing yourself money. Keep it stock for me!
