Engine ID...
Can someone tell me if I'm doing this wrong (maybe I don't know enough about FORD like I thought I did), I figured it was just like looking up the info on a chevy block.
Like always thanks in advance for the help.

How many valve cover bolts are there ?
Where is the oil filler cap located ?
Which way do the sparkplugs point Like this //\\ or //// ?
Now, There are also Number letters cast into the following parts:
Block (near starter)Heads (different places),Intake/Exhaust manifolds.
The tag they are speaking of is usually gone.
It used to be attached on the intake somewhere.

2- oil cap is on the front driver side
3- spark plugs //\\
I will get all the numbers on the block, heads and intake tonight. Someone told me to look on the sides of the block for the numbers, could the numbers be on the sides?
Thanks for the help Dennis.

Sounds like to me you have an FE family engine. There should be some numbers cast on the passenger side of the block. Some are back by the starter and are hard to find. Mine are up front under the first cylinder. You should find something like "C6ME-A". Also over next to the oil filter adapter you should find the date code. It is easyest to read if you are laying under the truck looking up. Should look something like "0A15". These numbers will tell you somethings but you will probably need to also measure the stroke of a cylinder. Take a plug out and insert a piece of wire. Turn the engine over by hand with a socket on the crank. Mark the wire from highest to lowest and measure between them. 3.78" could be a 390, 3.50 could be a 360. Post your results.
Good luck,
Lee
On the back-driver side of the block "45 352" and on the front driver side "48 352" passenger side "4 AJ297"
The heads have number between the two middle sparkplugs C8AEH.
And the intake C9AE9425B
is this info in the FORD shop mamual? If not where can I get all of this info from? book? web page? Thanks for the help.

The "0A26" tells that the block was made on Jan. 26, 1970. The other "352" numbers are common casting numbers. The C8AE H on the head is a common passenger car head found on 360, 390, & 428's. There should also be a date code next to one of the other spark plugs.
Order the book "Big block Frod engines" by Steve Christ. It is a wealth of info.

look on the "front" drivers side of the block, down and to the right of the water pump. it should say 352, which means it is any where from a 332 to a 428 (Fe motor, all fe's are stamped with 352 on the front of the block). if the truck is a 70, then its probly a 360.
another way to tell is the vin # (for instance f11yrc4938l)
the "y" means 360, if its a 390 it will be a "h" in place of the "
the most comin motor from 67-72 was the 360-- but the only way to know for sure is to look at the crankshaft or measure the bore..
this is what i know of it, if i am wrong then somebody please let me
know ... however i don't think i am on this one..
ps. best of luck
