Overflow tank level?
Hello...
I recall last year a mechanic I talked to told me that Ford Ranger coolent overflow tanks needed to be filled to a higher level that the "Normal" levels inscribed on the tanks for them to perform correctly.
Is that true?
I noticed that now hot weather is here, my temperture guage is reading higher than it used to.
It used to ride way over to the left, now it varies up to the "M" or "R" in Normal, but has not overheated.
(It does show warmer after a hill climb, and in when stopped in traffic.)
I did get a new thermostat recently, and the coolent/water mix floats all my *****, if you pardon the expression!
Should I keep the coolent overflow tank on the factory level, or keep it a few inches higher?
Thanks,
Skip

On my 87 I have a bypass engine oil filter mounted next to the overflow bottle, so to see the coolant level I have to fill the bottle almost to the top when the engine is warm.
If theres no leaks in your cooling system you will see the level in the overflow bottle rise & drop when the engine heats up & cools down
