VCT Phaser cured noisy startup.

My co-worker had a terrible noise on startup after truck sat idle for a couple of hours. The dealer replaced the VCT Phaser, and so far so good, nice and quiet.

Was this a sqealing noise that sounded like a slipping belt? And did the noise occur at startup and go away after a few minutes of driving?

The noise sounded like dry lifter clatter.
