Some fuses vibrate loose from the ends as wel.
Just cause it looks good doesn't mean it is.
That's what someone created Multi-meters to check for continuity.
If you are talking about the wire harness dropping back into the pillar that you are trying to fish out, take some mechanics wire and use it.
I can't remember of it can be gotten by reaching up behind the cluster or not.

You may have to take the kick panel off remove the vent, and reach around back inside to get it to the hole. You may or may not need to remove the parking brake pedal for clearence. If you have to do this, pull the crap out at the bottom of the vent. Leaves, pine needles, etc.. while you got it apart.
