I am going to put power steering in my 48 F1 in the near future and was wondering if anyone has any info on the pulley to drive the pump. I have a 1970 302 in the truck but it only has a single groove pulley mounted on the crank and also on the water pump.I assume the steering pump drives off the crank shaft.
I need to locate a double groove pulley but don't know what i am looking for.
Will it mount to the harmonic balancer or do i need the pulley and the harmonic balancer as a unit.
Terry, all you should need is a new double groove pulley that fits your crankshaft damper. I have a 302 in my '55 truck. The p/s pump is on the driver side with 1 belt from the crank pulley/water pump/ and p/s pump.
The other crank pulley groove goes to the alt. on the passenger side.
Be careful with the pulley, sometime Ford switched from 3 mounting bolts to 4 mounting bolts. Let me know if you need more info.
I noticed you are from columbus. I went to the all ford swap meet at the fair grounds a couple of weeks ago. I did get a pump with brackets for $20.00.
I wasn't sure at the time what pulley i needed. There is a big swap meet this weekend near me. Hopefully i will be able to find one there.
