rear main seal
well im bulding another mud truck, 85fordtruck 4spd 4x4 with 289 in it. After installing carb, headers ,battery, oil,etc, and busting it off and warming it up trying to get the carb dialed in i see its leaking oil from the rear main seal. I believe its the seal not the oil pan gasket anyway. well a certified mechanic told me to drain the oil out of the motor and fill it with 4,5 quarts of transmission oil and run it a while and that would swell up the seal and stop the leak,.anyone ever heard of this or tried it? just wondering if this would work.The motor has been in the truck for 8 months i just havn't had time to get back to getting it ready till this past week due to working all the dang time.any thoughts on this. thanks .
