Check this one out guys! I currently own a 2000 7.3 psd. I work for a large corporation out in West side Albuquerque. This enables me to have a huge pool of friends with various trucks. Well we have a an obstacle course out in the west side desert we like to take out all our new trucks to. The first 200 yards of this obstacle course is a stretch of sandy hill not really to steep. My 7.3 climbs that with out an problem. I've had guys in there 6.0's not even make it a 1\4 of the way up. It's devistated them when my truck will drive right through their 3 ft deep ruts. I've had new dodge 2500's, chevy 2500 and none of them climb as well as my stock 7.3. The only mod's I've done are my 2 inch leveling kit and my bfg 35's. The only vehicle we haven't tried is a new toyota tundra. How do we explain this about the old 7.3????? Because of this I'm keeping my 7.3!
All those "tests" have nothing to do with the engine whatsoever. More of a suspension, tire, gearing, traction aid type of comparison.
The fact of the matter is that a chipped 6.0 is going to be hard to beat with a 7.3 with any amount of mods. They're just fast and have a better top end. But they do have a lot more problems.

So what kind of response are you expecting here on the 7.3 forum? How hard is it to beat the 6.0 if it pukes? I see you don't even own a diesel so which would you buy if you wanted one?
I don't know. I really like the 7.3 for its reliability and cheap power, but I'd probably be willing to take a chance on the 6.0 for its rediculous power. Plus by the time I get one, the 7.3s are going to be getting kind of old.
Actually, the Dodge with the 5.9 (6 spd only) is looking really good for the money.
And he asked who would win. No need to get all hostile. How did you know that I don't own one anyway? (Although a drive more diesels than probably 90% of FTEers).

Ain't to hard to figure out. Dodge 5.9???? Ever heard of buy cheap, buy often? I figured that out about Dodge's years ago. Plus I have been driving diesels probably since before you were born. Going all the way back to GM's joke 350 conversion.

That 6.0 is being replaced. Wonder why. I've seen more 6.0s on the back of flatbeds at the dealer than any combo of other trucks combined. My patrol area includes the local Ford dealership. Yeah, the 7.3s are getting kinda old but mine is like new and runs great. 46k on the clock and paid for.
The Cummins is a great powerplant in a POS.
Don't automatically think any 6.0 can smoke a 7.3, especially a properly tuned one.
Wasn't trying to be hostile, just remember where you are. Did you expect a warm embrace with that post here? I know you don't own a PSD of any kind based on your comments and also your signature reflects as much.
Personally, I think the 6.0 was a great idea somehow gone horribly wrong. I wish Ford/Navistar had gotten it right. Perhaps they'll nail it with the next one. For now, my 7.3 is gettin it done and paid for. I will have this truck for a long, looonnnng time.

Well said! For starters they needed twice as many bolts (studs) holding the cylinder heads down.
I just bought an 00 with a 6spd and I raced my mom up this hill on the way home, and from about 80kmh in 5th we started and I had a headstart, and she blew by me at about 120 and she said she didnt even have it floored.....04 6.0L
so they do have more power, but their truck is startin to run into problems.
oh and from 100kmh to 160 in their truck is like warp speed

YEah, when stock, there is a huge difference between 7.3 and 6.0 - and the 6.0 has a lot more power. And, if both are similarly modded, the 6.0 kicks butt. But don't underestimate what can be done with a 7.3.
I have a 2000 that has been breathed on by Jody Tipton's wonderful chip. In the 80hp mode (hypothetically, about 320hp/650lb-ft at the crank), my 7.3 will leave a friend's stock 6.0 wheezing in my exhaust smoke - well, in the upper gears, anyway. I won't run it through the gears from a standing start, as I fear for the life of my transmission. Of course. before he got his stuck turbo vanes fixed, mine would leave his for dead even in the stock setting - at least until his finally started building boost.
Had to find out myself what was the diff.
The previous generation 7.3L generated 250 HP @ 2600 rpm and 505 ft/lbs torque @ 1600 rpm. The all new 6.0L was introduced with 325 HP at 3300 rpm and 560 ft/lbs torque @ 2000 rpm.
oh, I dont underestimate the 7.3 I plan on getting a chip from Jody very soon as I have heard nothing but GREAT things! driving a diesel is the most fun a 19year old can have.....almost

Yup. And driving a diesel won't leave any little replicas of yourself running around chewing on your bank account - which will leave more of your bank account for your diesel to chew on.
Before you get a Jody chip, be sure your rig is set up right - gauges, better flowing intake, MUCH better flowing exhaust, gauges.

With a manual on the later models you got 275HP with the 7.3.
I may not own a PSD, but I'll bet that I drive more of them on a daily basis than most here. I have plenty of time behind the wheel of Ford's last 4 incarnations of diesel. Light duty that is.
