Well, a recent death in the family has me needing to do some things out of town and I was wondering what I should do with the Ranger. It's going to sit for 2 weeks or more doing absolutely nothing. Anything I should do? Anything special? I filled the tank full about 2 days ago. It's going to be cold for a little, then warm up later this week. Gas should be fine. Any suggestions? thanks
If it's only going to be two weeks or so, nothing big to worry about, I'd make sure the doors and windows were closed tight, and shove a rag or the like in the muffler tip to keep any small animals from making a home in there. It shouldn't have trouble starting at all when you get back.
It will be okay for two weeks. As RangerPilot recommended, it probably wouldn't hurt to put a rag in the tail pipe, just remember to take it out when you get back.
If the truck is going to be sitting in the sun and it's warm where you are, it wouldn't hurt to crack the top of the window. I've seen pressure build up from the heat of the sun in older cars and blow out windows, usually the rear. That shouldn't be a problem on a newer Ranger, and it's very rare on others.
Sorry I didn't say that as well, sorry for your loss. Cracking a window is a smart idea...can't believe I didn't think of that, especially considering I do it every time I park the truck.
Just make sure it's not gonna rain, etc. If you like and trust your neighbors, you could give them the keys to start it up and let it run for a few minutes a week or so after you leave, that will keep it nice and ready to go again. Then again, if you don't, don't even think about it.
Thanks for the kind words. It's been a bit hard the past few days. I will be leaving tonight later for looks to be 2 weeks. Thanks again, it's nice to know that there are people who care...
