Chip Vs Tuner

I Am In Need Of Some Help , I Have A 06 Psd Superduty 4x4 F-350 4 Door Long Bed With Dullie As Of Today I Have Synthetic Lubes In The Diff's & Motor A Suncoast Triple Lock Torque Converter With A Mag-hytec Pans On Transmission And Front And Rear Diffs, Banks 4 Inch Exaust From Turbo Back, Also The Edge Platimun With A2 Monitor, Stacked With The Diesel Doctor Performance Module,

Wow What A Mouthful I Am Wondering If I Am Better Off Running A Sct Tune, Or Custom Sct Tune Instead Of The Edge For Better Transmission Programing, The Edge Seems Fair But Not Great, I Would Also Like To Deleate The Egr Or Unplug It And Deleate The Cat . ( For Just Off Road ) Can I Do This This With A Sct Tune Or Custom Tune ? And Is The Sct Tuners Better Than The Edge Platium? Sorry For The Long Question

I feel you would be better served with the SCT but I sell them so of course I feel that they are great. I will put it to you this way. I run an SCT in my truck and wouldn't have it any other way. Yes all of our tunes have the EGR turned off and a CAT delete is no issue other then your dealership service dept. Some don't like it and some don't care.

Hope that helps a little.

Lawnmower, a CAT delete means you crawled under the truck and cut the cat out of the exhaust system and put a pipe in its place. It is in violation of state and federal law.....but heck, I did it as well. Some dealerships and inspection shops will not inspect it without the cat, some will. As for the tuner issue.....there is a buyer for every bag.....Plenty of guys are running SCT's and Edge's and BullyDog's...and others...and love what they chose for one reason or another. If your feeling like you have tranny issues, have looked into simply going to a good tranny shop and doing a Trans-Go shift improver kit? It may be a easy way to keep the power system you have and get the firm as granit shifts you desire. I personally do not prefere software transmission line pressure increases over mechanical if it can be done both ways....mechanical would be my preferance. If not, the SCT can push line pressures to a degree...but it cant increase line pressures beyound the mechaincal ability of the valve body. So, yes and no.....the SCT may make you happy...or maybe it will not. The Trans-Go kit will probably get you shifting like an old muscle car chirping tires between gears....if you set it up that way.

Thank You For Your Input I Have Been Thinking About The Trans-go Kit Also If I Go With The Sct What Tune Should I Go With The Out Of The Box Tunes Or A Custom Tune If A Custom Where Should I Go For The Custom Tune? And Does Any One Know If There Is An Advantage Of The Cat Falling Off?

If your going the SCT way, I would be looking at Erik at Innovative Diesel for tuning. He has some of the best results as shown in the shootout on another site. There are many SCT custom tune shops out there, there are a couple gems that stand out in the crowd. If you are looking for the most detailed and specific tunes with the most power and customization, the SCT is really about your only choice. Van Aaken also has some good SCT files, but on the site they are not listing that product, maybe give him a call and see if they are still in the loop...in that shootout I believe he was number 2, behind Innovative Diesel who won the shootout that day.

As to the cat falling off, the advantage is a small gain in airflow. Todays cat's are much better than the ones of 10 and 15 years past, so the advantage is not as great as it once was. The problems that are associated with a lost or fallen off cat may make it not worth your while. That only you will know.

I dont think there is a lot to be gained by getting rid of the Platinum with A2. You have a great product, and it works very well. There are some advantages to each, and normally the buyer for the system you have now is not the same type of buyer that is out for the custom SCT tuners....Just like a buyer looking at a Lincoln is not normally the same buyer out looking at a Mustang GT. Does that make sense? The parts you own now are nice, and they function very well under most circumstances. The SCT is also a great product, but to has some limitations and some drawbacks. There is no safety factor in an SCT, it is hard core power.....live or die by the gauges. The Edge Platinum has built in tranny monitoring, built in turbo timer, GPS, backup camera coming next month, a great display, and adjust on the fly. There is a buyer for each product. No one product is the be-all, end-all, hands down winner. Be wise, think it all thrugh, and dont fall into the internet forum trap of listining to any one guy or forum. Hit a couple Ford diesel forums and ask the questions...you will notice that certain groups tend to lean towards certain products. That is not good or bad, its just the herd mentality. You have to sift a bit and filter out the junk.

I know you will have tranny problems if you stomp it all of the time. The transgo shift improver is just a snap ring and a blow off valve in case of too high line pressure. It will not reduce the lag between 3-4. I am not sure if the SCT can either. I ran an SCT and an Edge/Attitude stacked. It is hard on the trannies period. I had the full Extreme Duty Kit and the 3 clutch convertor, all of it is trash with 20000 miles on it, 56000 miles total. Going to trade it for a WRX STI!
